Our Mission

To support the education of every child in the Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) by developing, conducting and financing innovative and quality programs and projects. The CUSD currently enrolls nearly 11,000 students in fourteen K–12 schools.

Our Programs

How does CEF achieve its mission?

First, we earn and raise income to support our schools.

CEF currently operates two earned income programs that directly serve CUSD students:

  • Kids’ Care—CEF manages a before- and after-school licensed childcare program at every CUSD elementary school.
  • Summer Enrichment—CEF offers more than two-dozen, half-day student enrichment programs each June and July.

These programs generate annual profits that support the operating costs of the foundation and CEF’s ongoing grant-making efforts. This income is supplemented by vigorous and varied fundraising, including special events, grants, direct mail, major donors, corporations, and more.

Then, we grant those funds to CUSD programs and initiatives that align with CEF’s strategic focus.

CEF executes an annual grant-making program that provides funding for CUSD programs and needs in:

  1. Hands-on science
  2. District-wide music, and
  3. Educational innovation

Local teachers and administrators, principals, PTAs and the community support these three impact areas as enhancements that can make life-changing differences for our students. (For more information on our grant-making, see What We Fund.)
