“May all children everywhere…hear my prayer…May all people everywhere live in peace…peaceful minds…peaceful hearts…peaceful earth.”
This past Monday, the Carlsbad Educational Foundation and Joyful Jumping Music Together joined students and families from all across the globe via a Livestream Music Together Event in celebration of United Nations’ International Day of Peace. Created by a United Nations resolution in 1981, the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. It is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
CEF Kids Care Students, grades K-5 participated in the event held at Buena Vista Elementary. Students in more than thirty locations around the world united and raised their voices for peace in the 4 PM hour their local time—including students and parents from New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bermuda, and across the United States! Each group sang “May All Children”—the song for peace–creating an ongoing live presentation of the song from many different cultures. The event was led by Kate Battenfeld, Director of Joyful Jumping Music Together, and music educator for Buena Vista Elementary School.
CEF recently sat down with Kate to learn more about the events impact: “The live stream impacted me because of my commitment to making music with children and then sharing that music with communities. Music Together has been a part of my life for almost twenty years, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share its wonderful work with students in Carlsbad, in my capacity as a music teacher for Buena Vista Elementary. Children are natural music makers, and that love for music was clearly on display during their wonderful performance! Music has the power to bring people together–it offers hope, joy, and love and I am so thrilled that Carlsbad had the opportunity to be a part of an event that united students and families around the world to sing a song of peace.”
CEF Marketing Coordinator, Emily Krak also had the opportunity to participate in the event: “It is a very special thing to be moved by a room full of elementary school students. Education blossoms the humanitarians of tomorrow, and it warmed my heart to see the kids serve as a voice of hope on a global scale. Their genuine excitement left me feeling very inspired and proud to be a part of Carlsbad’s Education system.”
